1/16th Severn Class Lifeboat kit.
NOTE:
We previously announced that we intended to change the material used to build
the wheelhouse to styrene sheet. This was because there seemed to be a reluctance
with modellers to try it and so perhaps I was loosing sales.
I have changed my mind on this. I will continue to push the boundaries as it were, this is what gives Speedline it’s unique reputation so we are staying with this wonderful material. One day laser cut Perspex will be much more widely used in the hobby because of the significant benefits it offers the modeller and if it costs a bit more, and we loose the odd sale, well, so be it. We will continue to offer the best I know how and going back to styrene would be a retrograde step and against the principles we work to.
Introducing a new way of building model boat kits which will set the standard for others to follow in years to come. Printed styrene sheets you cut out by hand are just not good enough when laser cutting the parts can bring superb levels of accuracy to the kit.
The entire wheelhouse is laser cut from Perpex . This wonderful material is easy
to glue, has a superb finish, takes to being laser-
Every part required to complete the model is in the box and I am talking detail here!
The hull and deck are a complete one-
The wheelhouse is entirely fabricated with full interior detail .
There are 230 separate pieces making up the wheelhouse and they all fit perfectly!
In addition to the wheelhouse there are over 1000 other laser cut Perspex parts and 419 etched brass and stainless parts.
There is a stainless steel sheet of etched bolt heads to go on after the painting stage to give that wonderful finish detail.
Included are the prop shafts, brass 'A' frames and scale brass propellers and couplings.
The Hyab crane is made from etched brass as are the two sets of stairs and the trim
tabs. The flying bridge windscreen is made from etched brass and laser-
The entire wheelhouse interior is there, tables, wall trunking, vents, seats, instruments, doors and lockers, bed, scanners, crew seats, engineer's desk and doctors seat.
The only forming you have to do is to chamfer the joining edges of the main wheelhouse panels and to help with this we have included a mitre gauge and fully illustrated step by step instructions.
It’s really simple to do, it’s very rewarding, fun and it’s stunningly affective!
Sharp corners, dead straight lines and pin sharp detail are all ‘built-
There are a lot of castings (50 odd different items) and all are new and pin sharp with little or no flash to clean off.
Severn class lifeboats models are an exercise in ‘handrail building’, but in this
kit, all the hand railings are cast from Pewter. So you have no need to solder then
at all. Already made, just bend to fit. The stanchions are made from Pewter also
and locate into pre-
The ‘Y’ boat is a kit in its own right and can be displayed without its cover showing full interior detail.
Another first in model boating is our use of exact scale section rubber fendering which runs around the edge of the deck. It’s hollow so its very light and its actually made from the same material as the full size.
Arrangements have been made with the decal supplier to enable you to choose decals for any Severn in the fleet, all included in the price, even the postage.
To summarise, this is a top quality kit and it builds into a top quality, genuine ‘Museum standard’ model that you can be very proud of.
